I really am a sucker for real-life crime shows. Disappeared, Deadly Affairs, On the case with Paula Zahn are some of my favorites. Of course, I realize that these are actual crimes with actual people. But in the end, these shows were also made for entertainment purposes. Just like any other show, I guess.

When I saw the trailer for Dirty John, naturally I just had to watch it. And by watching it I mean binge-watch the entire series in 2 days. I admit I have a problem. Dirty John is a Netflix original series adapted from an extremely popular true-crime podcast (itself inspired by host Christopher Goffard’s series of L.A. Times articles). The series are about a con artist and sociopath (that would be John Meehan) who manipulated a spectacularly wealthy woman (self-made successful designer Debra Newell) as part of a long con that led to an incredibly violent end.

The series include a great cast including Connie Britton as Debra Newell, Eric Bana as John Meehan, Juno Temple as Veronica Newell, Jean Smart as Arlane Hart, Julia Garner as Terra Newell and many more.

I haven’t listened to the podcast version yet, but I will start listening to it tomorrow. For those of you interested, you can find the podcast on Spotify or on Apple Podcasts.
